We Saved Baby Macharia
We discovered Baby Macharia at the last #LoveKwaStreets event when everything turned sour, when the streets was so bitter with us that it treated our kindness and generosity as litter. He had a clogged chest and was crying a lot, perhaps from the empty constricted intestines and the cold that was affecting him. At only 3 months and knowing no sin, here he was, suffering from the wrath of the world that without compassion turned everything in his life, a twisted ankle.
He was under the care of two young girls who fled from their uncle’s malicious and forceful attack of rape. These two seventeen year olds, who had bottles of glue in their mouths and dents on their faces held the baby like he was their only beam of hope. He was close to them like a non-withering cacti and like he was the only being left to live for. Their pale faces looked worn out and hopeless and you could clearly see the struggle they undergo from the tone of their voices.
All we needed was Ksh. 4,000. Ksh. 3,000 was to get them off the streets and get them a roof under their heads and the rest was to start them a business. Many are wondering how possible this is. I was a photographer in the event (#LoveKwaStreets) and when we were done, the thought of helping the girls came into play. We did our contribution and asked if I could do the story. I did the story, the first story purposed for a good course and miracles happened, probably not from my story but God did wonders.
People gave more, someone gave a bed, another utensils, some random guy provided beddings etc. It was a course that came to be a whole interesting and an inspiring ordeal. It was with this that we decided to host a house party in their new home and all I can say is #NiJesus.
So guys met at Bata Hilton in town…
Street Shepherds meet at Bata Hilton
And the chase begins. A walk deep into the ‘suburbs’ or is it slums? They both start with an s and end with an s. There is either sweetness or sadness in them…
Not swayed with the thought of maintaining their beauty or it is not cool enough for a chic to go deep and reach the needy, these beauties brace all odds to do good in the society.
And the walk is not that simple… Just as the walk to our destination in life.
We had to hold the baby first and thank God for his health
At least he looked healthier now…. Something that would make those who truly know his plight shed a tear.
Boys will always be boys, they will always say they are hungry even if they are not. Our beautiful ladies prepared something sweet…
Meanwhile…
I was shocked that they had no more dents on their faces, no more gloom and that God was doing wonders… This was the last time we saw them on the streets…
It was time to eat…Which we gracefully did.
And guys created the moment by taking group photos.
And more of the baby
Ann and Joyce
It’s amazing how God can get you from here
To here:
It’s amazing how these people are in the right place and time doing the right thing and being happy while doing it…
What is that in your life that makes you happy? What is that in your life that makes you smile and rave in happiness and joy? Is it that hangout with your crazy friends? It is that X-Box? Is it that road trip? It is that movie/series? It is that music instrument? What is it that make you feel that you have achieved something great? Is it that land you just bought? Is it being a manager at 22? Is it having screwed as many beauties in your youthful years as possible? Is it that new car? That new born? That wedding? That breakthrough? That promotion?
Ours is different, what makes our souls more than happy is the fact that we have touched other people’s hearts. The journey as you have seen above gave us something to cheer about. The fact that I document this journey of Ann and Joyce all the way from the streets to a new home that was miraculously filled and the saving of Baby Macharia from cold is something that am proud about. We are proud of their successes as we share with them.
Think upon this snippet from an article I wrote a while back, ‘I Wanted That Fancy Life.’
“The question is not, ‘Who’s going to answer my prayer?’ rather the question is ‘Whose prayer is God going to use me to answer?’ The calling that God placed on your heart is God calling you to be the light in someone else’s darkness, to be their hope in their hopelessness, to be their comfort in their despair, to be their spark in their revolution and to be the joy in their sadness. That’s God calling you to be the answer in somebody else’s prayer!”
Yes we saved Baby Macharia and the journey doesn’t end there. Watch out for the next astonishing article of how Joyce reunites with her family whom she has never encountered with since birth.
